Donation strikes a high note for Beulah Adventist College

More than 50 former students of Beulah Adventist College returned to their old school on September 13 to donate a new set of brass band instruments valued at more than $A100,000.

The students, formerly members of the school brass band, now live in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. One of them emotionally expressed how encouraging it was for him to reunite with his former school band members and to return to his old school in Tonga after more than 30 years living in Australia.

Adventist education. On June 10, 2023, His Majesty King Tupou VI presented Beulah Adventist Primary School with the top school award in the primary and middle school category for its exemplary agricultural learning practices during the prestigious Royal Agriculture, Fisheries, Tourism, and Trade Show.

Over the past three years, Beulah Adventist Primary School faced numerous challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha'apai volcanic eruption in 2022, followed by destructive tsunamis. Despite these adversities, the Royal Agriculture, Fisheries, Tourism, and Trade Shows made a triumphant return this year, providing a platform to showcase the remarkable work of farmers, educators, fishermen, tradesmen, and local businesses. These events also served as an opportunity to honour and acknowledge their resilience and hard work in overcoming the difficulties posed by these natural disasters. Being part of this national event was an immensely rewarding experience for Beulah Adventist Primary School.

South Pacific Government Leaders Visit Adventist School in Tonga

Beulah Adventist Primary School in Tonga was in the international spotlight earlier in September when a delegation of South Pacific government leaders paid a visit to see the impact on students of the Health Promoting Schools (HPS) program.

Visitors to the Tongan school included Australia’s assistant mental health minister Emma McBride; New Zealand’s associate health minister Aupito William Sio; and Palau’s health minister Gaafar Uherbelau. They were in Tonga for the 15th Pacific Health Ministers Meeting.

The HPS project is a partnership between the Tongan Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education and Training, supported by funding from the World Health Organization.

To monitor progress in each school, educators are using a School-Based Assessment and Monitoring (SBAM) tool, with achievements categorized as gold, silver, or bronze under three priority areas.
